Digital Filmmaking Summer Camp 2024

A big THANK YOU to all the students and parents who tool part in our Digital Filmmaking Summer Camp in August. We had great fun teaching it and the students enjoyed throwing themselves into all the projects. Everyone who participated joined in enthusiastically and made the exercises their own, making their own wonderful creations in the process.

Building teamwork skills through filmmaking

We were particularly gratified to see how the students bonded over the four days. Film is a collaborative activity and it was amazing to see just how well everyone worked together in their groups to bring their visions to life. Even students who were a little shy at the start of the week, were quickly joining in and being fully included in the group.

Art has a great power to bring people together and to nourish our self-confidence and creativity and it was amazing to see this in action.

Over the course of the week, the students learned…

  • How to use film lights
  • How to light a scene
  • How to control a camera exposure
  • How to use different shot types
  • How to edit edit a scene making use of multiple camera angles
  • Stop-motion animation
  • Visual effects and masking
  • Slow-motion
  • Online safety

Learning Technical Skills through art

Filmmaking bridges the divide between the Arts and the Sciences and it was wonderful to see this playing out through the week as well. The students had great fun working on their creations and, in order to do so, they learnt lots of technical skills, such as how to operate a camera in manual mode, how camera optics work and exposure works and how to digitally manipulate their their footage using professional editing and VFX software.

It's lovely to see students finding the motivation through art and creativity to gain solid technical skills.

We hope you see you on a future course.
